Koh Chang

Ko Chang, one of the largest Thai islands in the Gulf of Thailand, contains dense, steep jungle. It is located around 300 kilometres east of Bangkok in Trat Province, in the Gulf of Thailand near the Cambodian border.

Destination Highlight

Every year there’s a noticeable increase in the number of yachts visiting the island. The archipelago is gradually getting a name for itself as a great place to go sailing if you want to avoid sharing an overnight mooring with dozens of other yachts. Unlike the south of Thailand, you’ll be able to sail all day and just see a handful of other yachts. And at night, you can moor off a sleepy deserted island. Yet you’re never more than a short sail from a resort on Koh Chang, Koh Wai or Koh Mak or Koh Kood or a Marine National Park base on Koh Rang or Koh Bai Daeng Ko Chang has three main seasons, the cool season runs from November to the end of February. Sailing conditions are safe and “cruisie” there’s plenty of sailing to be done but you’re not going to be rail-down with crew hanging on in fear of their life! Quiet tropical anchorages are all within and hour or two with islands around five miles apart and there is no stress over finding a mooring for the night or exorbitant mooring or marina fees, just “drop the pick” at your favourite spot.

The water quality on offering and white sandy beaches will not disappoint, there is plenty of locations for snorkeling, diving and for the keener divers you can arrange to dive on several wrecks in the area. On-land attractions include secluded waterfalls just a short hike away, swimming with baby elephants on white sandy beaches and exploring quaint fishing villages that offer some awesome photo opportunities to those photographers amongst us, not to mention the super fresh seafood. All of this, and often times you’ll have it all to yourself!
