Phi Phi Islands

Known as ‘the jewels of the Andaman Sea’ are considered one of the most naturally beautiful places in the world and it’s easy to see why. Sheer cliffs rise out from the sea on your approach only to give way to beach-fronted jungle. Diving is a big draw thanks to the huge variety of marine life the whole island region is part of a marine national park) and for the adrenaline junkies there is also the opportunity to snorkel with sharks!

Destination Highlight

Phi Phi Don was initially populated by Muslim fishermen during the late-1940s, and later became a coconut plantation. The resident Thai population of Phi Phi Don remains more than 80 percent Muslim. The current population however—if counting transient workers—is more Buddhist than Muslim. The resident population is between 2,000 and 3,000 people.

The islands came to worldwide prominence when Ko Phi Phi Le was used as a location for the 2000 British-American film The Beach. Phi Phi Island is often our first stopover on sailing trips heading south. Usually sail and diving charters leave Phuket in the late morning to midday and head for Phi Phi Island. With a nice breeze you can expectarriving around 3-4 pm, just in time to enjoy the island in her best light when the heat of the day has passed and her beauty really shines as the sun sets. By then, most of the day charter boats have left, and, in the whole of Maya Bay there are usually only a few sailing boats at anchor.

These islands are located 40 km south-east of Phuket where you can see the Andaman Sea slowly rippling against the white shores of Phi Phi Island. Often referred to as Thailand’s Shangri-La, Phi Phi is a mystical cluster of islands bound to awaken all of your senses during your Thailand yachting experience. You will discover powdery white sandy beaches, emerald green waters and luscious jungles filled with all sorts of exotic creatures.
